Pick of the Litter's "Linen Ladies"

This is #1 in a new series of articles that provide a look inside the various processing departments at Pick of the Litter Thrift and Gift.  In it, I hope to give you a good idea of the merchandise handled by the department and some examples of treasures recently processed and put up for sale.

Jan and Ellen make up the team that runs the linen department.   This area handles linens of all types, both everyday and vintage / specialty items.  Standard donations include:

BEDDING - Sheets, Pillowcases, Bed skirts, Shams, Blankets, Mattress Covers, Duvets, Comforters, Bedspreads, Quilts, Sleeping Bags, Pet Beds

FOR THE BATH - Towels, Shower Curtains (and hooks), Bath Rugs

KITCHEN/DINING - Towels, Pot-holders, Tea Cozies, Tablecloths, Runners, Placemats, Napkins (and rings), Aprons!

GENERAL DÉCOR – Curtains / draperies, Throw pillows, Wall hangings, Sofa covers, Area rugs

BABY ITEMS - Crib Sheets and Sets, Blankets, Toys, Carriers, Activity Centers

AFGANS / THROWS

LESSER QUALITY LINENS (meaning with a few stains, holes or frayed edges) are sold as drop cloths, shop towels and pet throws, nothing goes to waste.

HANDWORK AND VINTAGE - Doilies, Hand-Embroidered items, Vintage linens of all kinds

Jan and Ellen regularly get lots of standard and useful items to offer for sale.  But, periodically real treasures will come in.  Do you fancy quilts or vintage chenille spreads?  How about a stunning silk piano scarf?  Or maybe Navajo or Pendleton wool blankets.  All of these special items and more have recently been processed and put up for sale in the linen department at amazingly low prices.

Recently, they received a large donation of hand-embroidered pillowcases.  (See photos.)  There were more than a dozen beautiful pairs of cases.  Each set still presented its unique design, bright colors and the exquisite handwork of a by gone era.  The ladies have also put together a fine display of fancy tablecloths, perfect for a spring holiday brunch or dinner.  There are embroidered works, old-fashioned floral prints and fine damask linen.  But hurry in because they are selling fast!

You may not always find hand-embroidered works or Navajo blankets up for sale in the linen department, but you will find a wide array of useful items that will fill your regular linen requirements.  Please come by soon and take a look around.  The next unique treasure may just be waiting there for you.  You never know what you may find in the linen department at Pick of the Litter Thrift and Gift!
